Wireless Security
If you have a wireless network it is important to set it
up so that no one else can access it. You might think that
sharing your internet connection is not a big problem, you
might be on a plan that doesn't have any usage limits, but
there are far greater concerns when it comes to unauthorised
access to your internet connection.
People might use your connection for criminal activity,
releasing viruses, sending spam, visiting objectionable
web sites or other purposes that you really don't want associated
with your internet connection. This misuse will be traced
back to you not the person using your wireless access point.
Home users should at the very minimum implement the following
basic security options available in nearly all wireless
access points:
1. Turn on WEP encrytption
2. Turn off broadcast SSID
3. Enable MAC address filtering and allow only your computers
to connect to the wireless access point
Business users should consider the above options but using
WPA instead of WEP and maybe RADIUS for further protection.
